| Abstract |
This thesis deals with Non-Photorealistic Rendering (NPR), a relatively
new field of study in computer graphics and with the depiction of motion
in particular. In order to be able to visualize motion in a static medium
motion has to be stylized. The stylistic means that are used to do so are
mostly known from comics and cartoons and can be categorized into three methods:
squash-and-stretch, multiple images and motion lines.
These methods are discussed in this thesis for depicting motion in dynamic
images and design concepts for using them in real-time applications are
presented. In order to be able to test the designed concepts a prototype
was created. The implementation of the methods squash-and-stretch, multiple
images and motion lines is described in detail. The results of the implementation
are shown in the form of examples. They prove that stylized motion can
be used in moving images either to enhance their graphical appearance or
to convey information about the motion.
This thesis shows that the stylized depiction of motion in moving images
makes sense and that it can be used for a wide range of real-time applications.
